Changing your default search engine to something other than the one provided by your web browser is easy. And it’s time we stopped acting lazy and take two minutes to change the search engine.

Here’s how you can do it across several popular web browsers:

Google Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome and click the three dots in the top right corner to access the menu.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Under “Search engine,” click on the dropdown menu where it says “Search engine used in the address bar.”
  4. Select your default search engine from the list.
  5. To add a new search engine not on the list, go to “Manage search engines,” then scroll down to “Other search engines” and click “Add.” Fill out the fields including the search engine name, keyword, and URL with %s in place of the query.

Firefox:

  1. Open Firefox and click the three-line icon in the top right corner.
  2. Select Options, then click on Search in the left sidebar.
  3. Scroll down and click the dropdown menu under “Default Search Engine.”
  4. Choose which search engine to use as the default. If you want to add a new one not listed, scroll to the bottom and click “Find more search engines.”

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Open Edge and click the three-dot icon in the top right corner.
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
  3. Click on the “Address bar” arrow and choose a provider from the dropdown.
  4. To add a new search engine, use the “Manage search engines” option and fill in the necessary details.

Safari:

  1. Open Safari and click Safari in the Apple Menu Bar, then select Preferences.
  2. Click the Search tab.
  3. Click the dropdown menu next to “Search engine” and choose your preferred one.

Opera:

  1. Open Opera and click the O button in the top-left corner.
  2. Navigate to “Settings -> Basic -> Search engine.”
  3. In the “Search engine” section, click the “Manage search engines” link.
  4. Add a new search engine by clicking the “Add” button next to “Other search engines” and entering the required details.

Remember to replace the search term in the URL with %s when adding a custom search engine to ensure it works properly. These steps are generally easy to follow and can make your browsing experience more personalized.
